Musk’s canon debut is the March 2023 announcement that Tesla — the electric-vehicle pioneer — would begin building gas-powered cars in Austin, Texas. His statement dispensed with pretext entirely: having “had a lot of fun buying Twitter and watching the entire cathedral have a meltdown over it,” he explained, “I just want to sit in a congressional hearing to get yelled at about this, and say Dogecoin to the moon” (The First Gas Powered Tesla To Roll Off The Line In Austin Texas). The company simultaneously reaffirmed that its ultimate mission remains accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy.
